ABOUT THE BUILDING
Built in 1923 on land donated to the City of Nappanee, the West Park Pavilion was built originally to house traveling Chautaquas that would pass through the area. It is one of the few remaining buildings of this kind.
Over its 75-year history the pavilion housed such activities as family reunions, wedding receptions and additional classroom space for the schools. In 1958 Nappanee Civic Theatre began using the building to house their productions which ranged in size from small stage shows to the major musicals.
Deteriorating badly from years of little maintenance during the 70's and 80's, the building was saved from the wrecking ball and renovated in 1993 to its current beauty. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
It now continues its long history as being a busy place as various groups use the facilities. With the help of The Nappanee Historic Commission, Nappanee Civic Theatre, and various individuals, NCT was able to return to the West Park stage after a three year absence.
